Sustainability
Achieving a sustainable society requires the combination of a whole systems approach and new technologies. Within the Sargent Centre innovative technologies are developed to enable clean energy production, sustainable manufacturing and greater energy efficiency. We deploy systems engineering approaches to design and operate sustainable supply chains, to map net-zero transition pathways, and to design circular production systems. Our research spans decarbonisation, electrochemical production, hydrogen-based systems, alternative fuels and feedstocks.
The circular economy
The circular economy
Our world faces the dual challenge of reducing the use of non-renewable resources and to reduce pollution, from emissions to plastics and forever chemicals. Sargent Centre researchers are helping the chemical industry reinvent itself through a profound transformation into a fossil-independent, climate- positive and environmentally-friendly circular chemical economy.
Pathways to Net Zero
Carbon Capture
The Sargent Centre brings world-class expertise to carbon capture and runs a broad, interconnected research programme that spans material design, process innovation, dynamic operation and policy development across a range of CO2 capture settings, including for the treatment of flue gas from fossil-based power stations, blue hydrogen generation, bioenergy generation, cement manufacturing or direct air capture.
