Professor Ruth Misener

Professor in Computational Optimisation

Computing – Imperial College London

Ruth Misener is Professor in the Computational Optimisation Group, Research Chair in Data-Driven Optimisation with BASF and the Royal Academy of Engineering, and an Amazon Scholar. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research develops advanced optimisation methods, algorithms, and software for tackling complex decision-making challenges across engineering and industry, with particular interests in mixed-integer nonlinear optimisation, global optimisation, numerical methods, and bioprocess optimisation. Her work applies these approaches to real-world problems, including manufacturing scheduling and experimental design in chemical research.
