Chemical Engineering – Imperial College London
Costas Pantelides earned his BSc and PhD from Imperial College and his MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With more than thirty years of experience in process modelling technology, he has been instrumental in the creation of the gPROMS and SPEEDUP software. Currently, his work focuses on methodologies for increasing autonomy in process operations, and on the design and architecture of comprehensive software platforms to facilitate the achievement of this goal. His research at Imperial includes computational chemistry, with a particular emphasis on the ab initio prediction of crystal structures. Dr Pantelides has been honoured with several prestigious awards, such as the 2007 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award, the 2016 Sargent Medal from the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers, and an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Dortmund in 2019. He is a Fellow of both the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Royal Academy of Engineering, and an international member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
