Professor Federico Galvanin

Professor of Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering – UCL

Federico Galvanin earned the degree in Chemical Engineering in 2006 and the PhD degree in 2010 from University of Padova, where his research focused on the optimal design of parallel experiments and clinical tests for the identification of chemical and physiological models. He has previously worked as Research Associate at the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering where in 2015 he started as a Lecturer, and where he became Associate Professor in 2021 and Full Professor in 2024. His primary expertise lie in model identification, including the optimal design of experiments for developing chemical, biological, and physiological models. His research activities include the development of advanced computational techniques for model-based design of experiments (MBDoE), the application of conventional and advanced design of experiments (DoE) techniques to physiological systems and chemical processes, and the development and integration of machine learning and model identification algorithms suitable in automated reaction systems. He currently heads the Galvanin System Identification group, where a systems-based approach is employed for the design of optimally informative experiments with the goal of identifying predictive models with the minimum cost, time and effort in the experimentation.
