Chemical Engineering – Imperial College London
Calvin Tsay is a researcher specialising in optimisation algorithms, process systems engineering, and the integration of optimisation with machine learning. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently Associate Professor and BASF / Royal Academy of Engineering Senior Research Fellow in Scale-Bridging Modelling and Optimisation at Imperial College London. His research develops optimisation and machine learning methods for addressing complex engineering challenges, with interests spanning energy systems, process dynamics and control, reliable machine learning, and process systems engineering. He has received numerous awards, including the 2025 RAEng Young Engineer of the Year Award, the 2024 Imperial President’s Medal for Outstanding Early Career Researcher, the 2022 COIN-OR Cup, and the 2022 W. David Smith, Jr. Graduate Publication Award.
