Chemical Engineering – UCL
Matteo Salvalaglio earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2011 from Politecnico di Milano. Salvalaglio’s research aims to uncover the molecular determinants of physical-chemical transformations, crucial for developing rational design strategies for industrial chemical processes. He addresses questions about how molecular properties influence technologically relevant processes in chemical and biochemical engineering. His work involves applying molecular dynamics and advanced enhanced sampling methods to compute thermodynamics and kinetics at the molecular level. His research interests include crystallisation, nucleation, protein-ligand binding, protein chromatography, molecular dynamics simulations, and enhanced sampling techniques. In 2021, he was the recipient of the European Research Council Consolidator Grant.
